Efficient email management can save Environment | TechSpace 101

When you open your mail, do you also have 564 unread mails, 600 spams and 25 messages in drafts? If your mailbox also looks like this, unwillingly you are contributing to air pollution.

Welcome back to Shekhar Arena!

Today we will talk about how using your mails effectively can help protect the environment. Have you ever wondered where are our mails stored? They are stored on multiple servers in different parts of the world. To run these servers, a lot of electricity is required and most of this electricity is generated through fossil fuels. Also this can lead to extreme air pollution.

According to reports, one spam mail can produce upto 0.3 gm Carbon dioxide. Emails with attachment can generate upto 50 gms Carbon dioxide.
Around 60 bn spam mails are sent everyday that generates roughly 18 lac kg of carbon dioxide. That's the calcualtion for a single day!

After all this knowledge, what can we do? There are multiple steps we can take to reduce carbon foot prints.

A. Delete useless mails. Server's data will then be deleted and thus less CO2 is generated.

B. Delete all your spams daily.

C. Unsubscribe to unwanted mails- Lot of times we subscribe to newsletters while online shopping or surfing. Better unsubscribe these mails. It will take some time but will reduce your mail count significantly.

D. Turn off social media notifications- We no longer require basic mail notifications for our social media activity. These are now available in social media apps as well. Manage your preferences and just activate security related mails.

E. Clean your mailbox whenever possible. You might be spending a lot of time scrolling through instagram and binge watching YouTube. Spend some 5-10 minutes on your inbox, read the mails and delete the unnecessary.

These are some of the steps you can take towards an eco-friendly life. We can't eliminate but for sure reduce the carbon footprint.

Let us know in comments what steps do you already follow to manage your mailbox. Also let us know if you have any suggestions.

Solitude and Loneliness

Don't you think the root cause of most of our problems is the underlying loneliness that most of us experience in our daily lives today. Let's analyse what is the reason behind and derive some practical solution to this. Basically there are two situations i.e, loneliness and Solitude. In loneliness, you are alone and worried about having no one by your side while solitude is experiencing a whole new world when you are alone. You experience happiness when you are alone. You don't need a second person to be happy. The root cause of our emptiness is that our foundation for living is based on lies. We are stuck in the loop of lie spread by ourselves only and continue exhibiting dual personality. Actually we try to complete our emptiness through other things, actions and relationships (people)- don't we? As a consequence, we become more dependable on those things, actions or people. This dependency could be at physical, psychological, financial or even at mental level....

Don't let Social Media Ruin You

Are you one of those people who spend 4-5 hrs on social media daily. Then this is a must read for you.  Starting with what is social Media?Wikipedia says "Social media are Interactive computer-mediated technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression via virtual communities and networks. The popular ones are Facebook(and its messenger),Instagram,Twitter,Snapchat,Youtube,LinkedIn,Google+,Pinterest and Tumblr to name a few. A letter to Jersey No. 7 | The Captain Cool!

Dear Maahi, A very Happy Birthday! Hope you are doing fine. 'Dhoni finishes off in style, a magnificent strike into the crowd. India lifts the World Cup after 28 years. The party starts in the dressing room and it's an indian captain who's been absolutely magnificent in the night of the final'. I can feel this entire comment, it's  not a comment any more. This is a letter from a not so typical cricket lover to a living legend. I want to let you know three of the many things I have learnt from you. 1. There is always more time than you think.  I personally believe statistics tell it all. You have been not out 50 times in ODI, out of these 50 ocassions-India won 47 matches. You have always lived this lesson. 2. Don't think of what'll happen in next 20/30 years. Plan about what are we going to do tomorrow or, a day after. You have always exhibited the subtle art of doing more and expecting less. I believe this  is a solution to multiple issues of our...
