Basically there are 2 ways to join armed forces right now- Permanent commission and short service commission i.e., SSC. While in permanent commission, people work till the age limit of particular army wing they are working for and get ex-serviceman benefits when they retire, in SSC anyone works for a period of 10 years(extended to 14 years in rare cases).
